This month we dew due to have a talk by Lorna Howell about Lukesland Gardens, having been postponed from April 2020. The gardens are situated on the slopes of Dartmoor, in the valley of the Addicombe Brook, it is a garden of 24 acres of flowering shrubs, rare trees and wild flowers. The stream meanders through the garden, which is criss-crossed by a number of bridges. The tranquility of the garden and the rich variety of habitat makes it a haven for wildlife and birds.
In spring the rhododendrons, magnolias, camellias and azaleas fill the garden, and in the autumn there is a glorious show of fiery colours reflected in the lakes and pools. The garden is 1.5 miles north of Ivybridge and can be reached both by train and bus. They are only open in April, May and early June, then again in October and early November. Some members will be visiting in early May.
