With bees of all types under threat, come and hear what they are doing at Buckfast Abbey. It is likely that bees were kept at Buckfast Abbey from medieval times – not just for honey, because beeswax was used for candles, which burn with a pure flame befitting for the house of God. That is why after work began on rebuilding the Abbey in 1882, honeybees were brought back and have remained here ever since.
